SCHOFIELD NEWS! SKEPTIKO AND THE MOON

Evening all! I think this is Schofield news – I currently have exactly 8 favourite planets and roughly 422 favourite moons, this is one of them.

Darya Kawa Mirza’s new composite image of our Moon.

Schofield news! Read on as the Pips makes more sense holistically than the above text alone…

A membership card to the Sussex Civilian Saucer Group. The text here can be found on the Buoys Club under the heading Skeptiko Chapter 1 – below an excerpt…

What if I designed a watch with no new reference points? A design that was not inspired, meaning there was no trigger event to seed an idea. Could the brief be

To design a watch from the experiences of my life without research, influence, advice and inspiration?

Naturally, there would have to be hard points. So, if it was written for my University students it might go like this

To design a mechanical wristwatch using the Schofield case shape and constraint list provided. After studying Giles’ product design and the Schofield brand ideate without any further research into the position and zeitgeist of the watch industry. To seek no advice or confirmation and to avoid all bias. Essentially to design a watch from your mind only.

Perhaps more elegant would be

To design a watch by looking through Schofield media and websites with no other internet usage permitted. Nor watch news in print, nor advice from any third party…

Read the rest on the Buoy’s Club!

The Skeptiko chapter 3 and 4 are also now live on the Buoys Club.

Below a bit of Chapter 4.

…The translucency of the case was tested with all colours and reflectivity of internal components, some of them show. Studying the assembly under different lights to make sure I was not missing a trick took a very long time.

The strap is to be decided. There were 5 fabrics selected, I will now wait until the straps are made to choose which couple make the finals. You can’t test straps from swatches alone, you need the real thing to match properly. As the watches are more poetic than a list of bullet points could ever be, the strap has to be right.

I am considering an Ultem buckle for the Ultem cased version – The Bureaucrat. I hate it when cost becomes a factor because they are really expensive to make. I always assess whether it brings to the party, it does, that’s the problem. So, let’s see if it’s feasible.

More Schofield news; The UFO cap. Truth be told I thought this version would take me to next year and into the launch of the Skeptiko. It won’t.

So, I have designed a new one for Pips readers like you with Six Pips on the front – kind of. It will be our Christmas cap drop.

In the meantime  – once the UFO cap has gone. That’s it.

BTW there are some UFO patches available (same as on the cap, just not on the cap) – email in.

Chanctonbury Ring. If you come and visit us at the Riverside store, you could, if so inclined, climb the Downs to visit this other worldly place. It is just a ring of trees on a hill – but it’s special with deep meanings.

Ok, let’s come back to Earth. This is going to be a new range of keyrings. Stuff from the shed, garage or misc. drawer. Here a  winding key in brass, engraved. These are chunky and yet quite small. From a cabinet of curiosities… Coming soon.
