These are automatic watches designed in Sussex and forged in the seas surrounding our rugged coast. Their details speak of the romance and hardship of the lighthouse keeper and the trusted beacon of light. The cases are iconic in shape and the dials clear to read. We endeavour to combine the best in British manufacture with precision Swiss movements and German engineering to create watches with a story behind every detail.

  • Automatic watch: the Daymark
    Automatic watch: the Daymark
    £3,600.00

    The Daymark

The Daymark is an automatic watch with the same case dimensions as our classic Signalman but has been made from one piece of vapour-blasted stainless steel. The crown is a pull-out type and in the gallery below you can see a nail notch milled into the case under the crown. There is also a deep groove running around the circumference of the crown for the purpose of putting your nails into to pull the crown out. This groove also indicates the ‘affordance’, the action required of the crown, teeth to show rotation and the groove to show pulling in and out.

Powered by a Swiss automatic, ETA 2824. The watch is a 3-hander, hours, minutes and seconds. The case has a 44mm diameter with an exhibition case back. The price shown is with UK VAT, if you are outside of Europe then VAT will be deducted at the checkout.

    • The word ‘Schofield’ replaces 9 minute marks on the chapter ring
    • The hour markers in the chapter ring are pink anodised ‘top hats’ filled with Super-LumiNova C3 that catch the light
    • All the parts of the hands and the windows line up when overlapping
    • The second hand tapers towards the tip and the counterpoise
    • The second hand counterpoise is filled with lume
    • Only the word ‘Daymark’ appears on the dial
    • The case has a new nail rebate for pulling out the crown
    • The crown has a groove for your nails to grip to pull out
    • The case has a slight radius on the outer edge of the bezel
    • The box is black-stained ash the queen of English timbers

    White watches: the Telemark
    £3,600.00

    The Telemark

The Telemark, forming the Markers range along with the Daymark, is characterised by the one piece, German made stainless steel case. A nail notch milled into the side for pulling out the crown. Dials that feature chapter rings and oversized hands designed for clarity. This is a white watch for telling the time!

The Telemark is influenced by the classic war film The Heroes of Telemark which is often cited as one of the best-dressed men’s films of all time.

The white, an obvious starting point, calling on the Norwegian fjords and the persistent snow, contrasts with our first fully numerated dial with a black pixel font reminiscent of Bauhaus design and AEG industrial clocks. Known as a submarine dial it has been designed for low light readability. The hour markers in the chapter ring are black anodised and filled with SuperLumi-Nova C5. The overall asymmetrical dial layout is a reference to the watch Kirk Douglas wore in the movie. The date is notable for being reprinted to read horizontally in the 4:30 position. The surrounding graphic is a modification of the Unicode symbol for a lighthouse (used on the Markers’ crown) but which also resembles a naval contact mine.

Powered by a Swiss movement, ETA 2824, the watch is a 3-hander, hours, minutes and seconds and date function. The case has a 44mm diameter with a solid engraved case back. The price shown is with UK VAT, if you are outside of Europe then VAT will be deducted at the checkout.

Bronze watch produced by Schofield: the Patinated Bronze Beater
    £3,060.00

    Patinated Bronze Beater

The Beater is an everyday bronze watch stripped of complications. Designed to be worn without the anxiety of wear because the case is made to age gracefully over time. This is Batch 2 of the Bronze Beater or BBB2.

One case, two finishes and you can choose. The raw case has been blasted with a coarse medium that creates a wonderful, slightly sparkly, finish. This will not last long as these cases are designed for those that want the grease of everyday life to change the character of the metal over time. The patinated variety of the bronze watch case is just the same as the raw but has undergone further treatment. To obtain the stabilised oxide coating we dip the raw bronze into baths of dyes and acids which, after washing the cases are burnished to reveal the raw metal in select places – bezel, sides and the edges of the lugs. The patinated finish is permanent with your own scratches and chemistry adding to the character over time.

The Beater is a bronze watch which is evocative of all that is marine and seaworthy. This is clearly seen in its colours, the inky blue of the ocean’s depths, the bronze synonymous with marine engineering and the elements of light like a night sky, complement one another and form a coherent whole. Patination whether earned or forced is a mark of time passed. It is a watch that reflects and represents time with both its tick and colour. It is surely an example of modern treasure.

Powered by a Swiss automatic, ETA 2824-2, this bronze watch is essentially a two and a half hander featuring our Sign-Of-Life seconds hand. The case is 44mm in diameter with a deep laser engraving on the back. The price shown is with UK VAT, if you are outside of Europe then VAT will be deducted at the checkout.

    • The dials are double blue with a gold perimeter and centre
    • Luminescent numerals and hour markers
    • Hands are brushed bronze with little thorns as counterpoises
    • There is a small line printed on the centre cap – this is the Sign Of Life second hand
    • The Beater is made in small batches and each case is hand-finished, therefore every one is slightly different, a one off
    • The case back is fully engraved with an isometric and 3D design
    • Your choice of strap
    • It comes with a Murky Earth ceramic coated buckle fitted
    • The box is Osmo finish ash, the queen of English timbers
    • The case back can be monogrammed

Signalman Bare Bones Rose Gold Dial
Signalman Bare Bones Rose Gold Dial
    £4,260.00

Signalman Bare Bones rose gold watch

The Schofield Signalman Bare Bones project. The plan is to make a limited run of these Bare Bones minimalist watches – some have dials plated with different precious metals and some have solid German Silver dials. All will be serialised and marked on the case backs with the Rare Things graphic. Schofield branding only appears on the buckles. This minimalist watch has a heavily plated rose gold dial and is limited to 10 watches.

These are pre-production artist’s proofs and have been built into Signalman cases. A charming quirk and proof of Schofield’s watch development is the redundant pusher button in the side of the case for setting the GMT complication in the classic Signalman models.
