Japanese watches | Beater B5

£3,780.00

A Japanese watch – the Bronze B4 was only half the story. This new Japanese B5 is the light to the B4’s dark! The prettiest Schofield to date. A muted, blossom coloured dial in a specially textured case similar in finish to traditional Suzuki or Shibuichi items.

There are depths to the texture because the machining marks can be seen below the finish. The case back is very special indeed, traditionally made in sterling silver and glass enamel we see a scene of an old plum tree, inspired by a Fuchū manhole cover.

We have also made a little lapel pin in the same design, again in silver, for you to wear on your jacket.

The strap is plum canvas with a stitch to match the dial. Somebody wrote that the Bronze B4 is Giles’ love letter to Japan, having been a Japanophile his entire life, the B5 needed to reflect elements of Japan the B4 missed – the Sakura, the subtle, beauty and calm. A Japanese watch befitting a culture of elite design and subtlety.

The price shown is with UK VAT, if you are outside of the UK, VAT will be deducted at the checkout. There are so many ways to pay, if you would rather do business over email – it is no problem.

Japanese Watch Middle-tex case

Schofield is known for its complex case shape which has been improved and refined over the last decade. This case differs from others in three ways. Firstly, the underlying machining path has been reworked to exaggerate the fingerprint left by the 5 axis CNC mill.

Secondly, we have added a radius to the bezel for a slightly softer look as well as improving dent resistance and thirdly, by offering a new media finish we call Middle-tex, perfect for this Japanese watch The case is stainless steel with a texture that sits between our vapour-blasted finish and the severe Brutalist finish of some rare Beaters.

Dial and strap

This is the last dial with this familiar topography, hours at cardinal points including a slash-0 at 12, darts between the numbers and a minute track bordering the stepped level and colour change in the dial. Using Super-LumiNova C3 with a bright green emission, most obvious is the luminescent ring around the outer circumference, the same can be seen on this watch’s brother the Japanese Bronze Beater B4.

The handset features our Sign-of-Life hand found on many watches and even on the Small Wall Clock, a counterpoise only, indicating time is passing but without the need for precision time-telling. The hands are brushed gold and match the gold ring in the middle of the crown.

We consider ourselves experts in Japanese fabrics having used so many over the years. The strap seen here is Japanese Plum Canvas, a coarse weave with real depth of colour achieved, naturally, by dyeing with persimmon and plum . The lining is indigo calf. The buckle brushed stainless steel.

Strap size guide

Schofield watch straps are available in three sizes; regular and long and uni. For fine tweaking read on.

The regular sized watch straps are 110mm on the non buckle side and 75 on the buckle side. The long straps are 115mm on the non buckle side and 90mm on the buckle side. Uni straps have 115mm long non buckle side and a 78mm long buckle side.

If your wrists are less than 19cm (7.5 inches) in circumference then we suggest you choose a regular or uni length strap. For wrists that are more than 19cm (7.5 inches) in circumference then we suggest a long strap.

With wrists approximately 19cm in circumference then a longer strap will give more of a tail; most guys opt for a regular sized watch strap with a shorter tail.

We has introduced a new uni strap size. It falls between our traditional long and regular sized straps. Only some straps are available in Uni, others are still the regular and long sizes.

B5 watch care

The Middle-tex case finish along with the curved bezel, should be able to endure life’s knocks. It will mark though – all watches do, but marking gracefully –  this is the Schofield way!

ICON BOX

Schofield straps are packaged in recycled and recyclable card boxes and envelopes. We adhere to our Mission Statement even if it means the packaging can (for some) fall short of that luxury feel. That said the little strap boxes are really cool.

Just because it is green does not mean we cannot flex our creative muscle! They are traditionally made in Woolwich using gold and silver staples instead of glue.

ICON DRIVERS

All straps come with a set of our proprietary Lug Protection stickers. If you regularly change straps then we suggest you consider some Schofield Drivers. They are purpose made flat-head watch screwdrivers for changing straps and buckles on all Schofield watch models.

This Japanese watch comes with a brushed stainless buckle.
