The Daymark

The Daymark

The Daymark is an automatic watch with a green dial, well green and black and a kind of gloomy green at that. The precision German made steel cases are made to the same case dimensions as our classic Signalman but in a one piece construction. The crown is a pull-out type and in the gallery below you can see a nail notch milled into the case. There is also a deep groove running around the circumference of the crown. These two details make it easy to pull the crown out. There is an even more austere version of the watch the Daymark Dark with a black ceramic coated steel case. Powered by a Swiss automatic, ETA 2824. The watch is a 3-hander, hours, minutes and seconds. The case has a 44mm diameter with an exhibition case back.

The price shown is with UK VAT, if you are outside of the UK, VAT will be deducted at the checkout. There are so many ways to pay, if you would rather do business over email – it is no problem.

More Daymark info

Green watches are where it is at and the Daymark works in every way! Let me tell you why; iconic Schofield case shape, classic Schofield colour way, high contrast legibility in low or obscured light conditions, powerful lume for night-time reading, sapphire crystals front and back and a robust and reliable automatic, mechanical, Swiss movement. The Daymark is riddled with charming details like the pink surrounds to the hour markers, the serious second hand with a luminescent counterpoise, a crown we could talk about all day and a dial with such symmetry and discreet branding that it smacks of Schofield. Now all you need to do is choose whether to go for the version with a black case; the Daymark Dark or this one in steel and then one of our 30 odd different straps to put it on!

The actual Daymark

The Daymark is a hollow octagonal tower of limestone built in 1864 by the Dartmouth Harbour Commissioners. At 80 feet high it is an Aid to Navigation (the first name of the watch that would become the Signalman) to help mariners find entrance to the River Dart. The Daymark is essentially a lighthouse without a light! A perfect name for our automatic watch. The place itself is beautiful, high on the headland above Kingswear, a bleak landscape devoid of trees with this menacing black tower which looks as if it has its fingers in the earth, anchoring it in harsh weather.

This landmark inspired the design of the two Daymark watches, firstly with symmetry. The dial is devoid of any element that would render it asymmetrical. Second the colours; green watches are difficult to get right but the desaturated West Country coast gives us the hue, the lichens and moss, the grass field The Daymark sits on, the black/grey stone the pale clouded sky. Thirdly the oculus, the hole in the top of The Daymark represented by the dark inner dial. Lastly the overall weight/gravity, with the watch having such a heavy handset combined with all the other elements working together in harmony give the watch an austerity found in no other Schofield watch.

Dial and movement info

Classic Schofield in the layout, open and uncluttered designed for legibility. You could call in a green watch but it is so much more than that. A black PVD coated chattering with minuet marks and high lighted 5 minute markers. Luminescent darts at all twelve points and a seconds track bordering precisely the  colour change in the dial.

The Daymark is limited to 150 watches and the Daymark Dark to 100.

The vapour blast steel hand set is oversized for legibility and the hand details align perfectly with each other. The finish matches the casework, crown and buckle. Both hands and dials are luminescent with Super-LumiNova C3, the brightest industry standard luminescent material.

The movement is the ubiquitous stalwart of quality and reliability the ETA 2824-2. Visible through the sapphire case back.

Shown here on the Clayton Leather watch strap but matches so well with numerous other in our range.

Strap size guide

Schofield watch straps are available in three sizes; regular and long and uni. For fine tweaking read on.

The regular sized watch straps are 110mm on the non buckle side and 75 on the buckle side. The long straps are 115mm on the non buckle side and 90mm on the buckle side. Uni straps have 115mm long non buckle side and a 78mm long buckle side.

If your wrists are less than 19cm (7.5 inches) in circumference then we suggest you choose a regular or uni length strap. For wrists that are more than 19cm (7.5 inches) in circumference then we suggest a long strap. With wrists approximately 19cm in circumference then a longer strap will give more of a tail; most guys opt for a regular sized watch strap with a shorter tail.

We has introduced a new uni strap size. It falls between our traditional long and regular sized straps. Only some straps are available in Uni, others are still the regular and long sizes.
