SalonQP and other watch shows, seminars and events

Schofield will not be attending Salon QP this year. Having exhibited every year since SalonQP moved to the Saatchi Gallery we decided to take this year off to concentrate on two new watches and a couple of accessories. We understand that many of you come specifically to see what new treasure we have unearthed and we are are sure you will be disappointed that we will not be there. We apologise for this and wish all attending and exhibiting a good show! Please sign up to our Bulletin to be the first to see our new wonders.

V&A for London Design Festival, Friday 25th September 2015.

Schofield Watch Company launches ‘The Last Signalman’ design a watch competition at the London Design Festival at the V&A.

An emerging artist will win The Schofield Last Signalman, luxury watch prize worth over £3500

Schofield Watch Company, in its role of supporter and purveyor of British craftsmanship and art, today launches a “Design a Watch” competition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, during the London Design Festival at the V&A. The competition is aimed at emerging designers from the best of Britain’s art and design colleges, in collaboration with ARTS THREAD. Giles Ellis, Managing Director of Schofield Watch Company will be giving a short talk and advice to students this evening about making a successful career in design, in the V&A’s Learning Centre.

Alex Brownless of ARTS THREAD says:

“Young, and emerging designers are crying out to work on real-world projects such as this. A prize of such luxury and value is exciting and unusual, and we expect high levels of motivation for a prize of such calibre. We are also very pleased to be working with such an original thinker and creative talent as Giles Ellis”.

Giles Ellis of Schofield says:

“Schofield have always strived to support the arts, in the past, commissioning visual art and films to support our branding, and this competition continues that position. The Limited Edition watch that we are offering as the prize is the last one of the first watches that I designed for myself! It has special significance to me” We are very pleased to be working with Alex and Arts Thread on this, as they have access to students and young designers from all of the top national and international design schools.

The competition launches during London Design Festival at the V&A and runs from 25th September – 25 November. It is open entry to all students, and graduates within 2 years. Full terms and conditions and an entry form can be found on

Schofield SALONQP after party 2013.

By invite only
Blacks Members Club, Soho, London.

A thank you to those particular few who went the extra mile for Schofield this year.

Privately owned and situated in the heart of Soho, Blacks was built in 1732 by John Meard. Georgian in style this house was occupied in the mid 18th century by Anthony Chamier. Chamier was one of the original members of “The Club”, a literary and dining club founded by Samuel Johnson and Joshua Reynolds. The club convened in this location between 1764 and 1767.
In 1819 it was occupied by R.J Wyatt and in 1836 by Charles Fortnum, the founder of the Palace grocers Fortnum and Mason. Blacks was started in 1992, restoring the virtually derelict building and opening a casual and unceremonious club for “charming rogues and those partial to the exotic”.

2013 will be our biggest SalonQP to date. At the show we will be launching our new wrist watch the Blacklamp Carbon after 2 years research, development and fabrication. Widely anticipated to be the talk of the show the Blacklamp Carbon is a limited edition wrist watch of only 101 pieces. Each Blacklamp Carbon is named after an English lighthouse and denoted by the location co-ordinates and unique flash signal of the lamp.

We will also be hosting the inaugural Schofield SalonQP after-show party on the Friday evening in an exclusive venue. This party is an invitation only event and a time to celebrate the achievements of the year and thank those people, friends, partners and customers, who went the extra mile for Schofield during 2013.

We will also be unveiling more information on our Environmental Social Responsibility work centred on our project Tide Time. This will include two important artistic collaborations and our work locally in the Sussex area.

Giles has also been invited to hold another seminar this year following on from his highly successful seminar last year called ‘Designing in Circles’. This years seminar is entitled ‘Forecasts and Observations’ and will discuss the development of the Blacklamp Carbon amongst other things.

Friday 14th June 19:00 – 21:00 – Tavistock Square, ‘The Balvenie Dome’, WC1H London
Chaired by The Balvenie Brand Ambassador Sam Simmons, we will be hosting a Meet The Maker talk with Masters of Craft judge Giles Ellis of the Schofield Watch Company and our Malt Master, David Stewart.

As one of the judges for ‘The Balvenie Masters of Craft 2013’ Giles has been invited to participate in ‘Meet The Maker’ alongside David Stewart from Balvenie Whisky, one of our greatest living malt masters. Both David and Giles will discuss their shared passion for all things handmade and the suprising similarites shared between creating handcrafted watches and Single Malt Scotch. With a mix of presentation, tutored tasting and open Q&A, the Meet the Maker session is for all those who want to know the stories behind the product and to be able to ask those involved directly.
A limited number of tickets are on sale for £15. 12 year-old DoubleWood malt whisky will be served on entry. The talk will take approximately an hour and a half with time for questions from the audience. The talk will finish with a whisky tasting led by David Stewart.
Each guest will leave with a dram of 17 year-old whisky. There will be time to meet Giles afterwards and chat informally about Schofield, our new watch the Blacklamp Carbon and our plans for the year.

November  SalonQP – The Saatchi Gallery – King’s Road – London

SalonQP has become the most important show in the calendar for Schofield and we use this international watch show at the Saatchi Gallery as the place to launch our new wrist watches, show our innovative and eccentric dry goods, straps and watch related accessories, meet our Schofield Club members as well as press and the general public.
SalonQP is the UK’s only fine watch exhibition. Set in the beautiful Saatchi Gallery during November, Salon QP showcases exciting innovations, the best of design, independent watch companies, and the finest craftsmanship. All the major names in watch making are represented at Salon QP, including Audemars Piguet, Panerai, Bell & Ross, A. Lange & Sohne, Arnold & Son, along with British independents Bremont, Meridian, Robert Smith and Robert Loomes to name just a few. QP also holds watch making workshops and seminars from leading practitioners and designers. Schofield has been part of Salon QP since 2011 when the brand was launched in Gallery 9 at the heart of the independents section.
In 2013 Schofield will launch it’s new wrist watch the Blacklamp Carbon ®. Only limited numbers are available as each watch is serialised by giving it a unique partnership with a great English lighthouse. We will also reveal what we have done under the banner of the Tide Time Project, bringing 2 years of endeavour to partial fruition.
In 2012 Giles and Matt were again back at SalonQP with new dry goods, beautifully fabricated English watch straps and the Schofield x Cherchbi Watch Wallet. The Schofield stall was even busier than the year before and we had the pleasure of meeting many Schofield customers and members of the Schofield Club. With the Schofield wrist watches already sold out for the year and selling into the next, the stall was constantly packed with customers and visitors keen to try on the Signalman. Giles was invited by SalonQP/QP Magazine to give a seminar on design as part of the show. Entitled ‘Designing in Circles’ the talk was received by an enthusiastic audience who listened intently as Giles described parts of his design process, his inspiration and the design elements behind the slash zero and the custard cream! Answering all the questions put to him the seminar ran over by twice the allocated time.
In 2011 Schofield launched its debut watches the Signalman GMT PR and the Signalman DLC to critical acclaim. With drinks and canapés the stall was inundated with visitors and press. From the first night through to the end of the exhibition on Saturday afternoon Schofield was incredibly busy meeting people, talking through our concept behind the Signalman, recording videos and accommodating photo shoots for press and public alike. It was an amazing turnout in the independents section and the beautiful white spaces of the Saatchi Gallery proved to be a striking backdrop to the launch of our watches and the brand itself.
Thank you everyone who has supported us at this event so far – James, Tracy, Tallulah and the team at Salon QP and the Schofield Club members who turned up in numbers, especially those who brought us food and drink. SalonQP is one of the highlights of our year and the opportunity to meet like minds, have a drink and be part of the event is greatly appreciated.

Schofield enjoyed being part of Best of Britannia alongside great British brands, including Mr & Mrs Smith, Sunseekers, Marshall and Cherchbi, etc.

BOB is a brand new and highly targeted event that exclusively caters for British companies that design and/or manufacture in the UK. BOB enjoyed its launch with a public and trade celebration in a venue paying tribute to the best of Victorian industrial splendour whilst simultaneously presenting the future of the green shoots for the British economy. Carefully selected quality British lifestyle brands, including Schofield, showcased in front of the very best of retailers, the media and huge numbers of influential public attendees.
